Tucked behind its Victorian façade, this Bondi home reveals a richly layered interior by Arent & Pyke, a small detailed home of colour and texture. The garden steps quietly into that world, extending its intimacy and material depth outdoors.

The rear garden is structured around a soft geometry of pink marble paving, where Dichondra repens and Pratia alba weave between the stones like a living carpet. At its heart sits a sculptural grass tree (Xanthorrhoea glauca) that brings stillness and a grounded sense of ceremony.

A treasured frangipani, transplanted from the client’s previous garden, anchors the planting palette. Its familiar form and seasonal perfume carry a thread of personal history into the new home, offering shade, memory, and a gentle counterpoint to the more architectural elements.

Around it, silvery Helichrysum, trailing Dichondra argentea ‘Silver Falls’, and the bold fronds of Alpinia and miscanthus create a textured mix of structure and softness. Climbing jasmine and Algerian ivy move slowly across the existing recycled brick walls and along the outhouse façade, stitching old and new together as they grow.

In the front garden, the planting responds to the home’s ornate Victorian detailing with a looser, more romantic expression. Salvia, lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Russian sage, rosemary, and blue star fern (Phlebodium aureum) form a perennial tapestry that feels nostalgic and fresh.

Across both gardens, the balance of refinement and informality mirrors the interior ethos, considered, tactile, and deeply personal. This is a small space that lives large, shaped by material warmth, generous planting, and the quiet presence of a well loved frangipani.
