This project offers a considered response to the need for alternative housing models in regional centres—places where accommodation for students, healthcare workers and short-stay residents can be limited, and where community is as valuable as privacy. Located on Edward Street, the building is conceived as a contemporary co-living model that fosters connection, adaptability and a genuine sense of place.

The landscape plays an active role in shaping daily life. Rather than ending at the boundary, planting spills into the public realm: a reclaimed verge along two frontages introduces native and salt-tolerant species, increasing biodiversity and creating a generous green edge to the street. It softens the urban condition and lends the project a civic presence long before one reaches the front door.

Within the site, the planting strategy responds to saline soils and regional heat. Mixed borders, canopy trees and layered natives provide shade, colour and texture through the seasons, improving comfort across outdoor spaces and circulation. Communal gardens and an outdoor fireplace sit at the heart of the project—spaces to gather, cook, study or simply rest among plants. These areas help residents build routine, connection and a quiet sense of belonging.

More than a collection of rooms, this is housing designed for the people who keep regional cities moving. A resilient landscape, considered communal spaces, and architecture grounded in context together offer a new model for living in Wagga Wagga.
